As some of you may be aware I'm rather fond of the Tour de France. Its about the only sport I'm interested in, (I like athletics and swimming too), so I've been rather looking forward to the Prologue up in London, and Stage 1 going through Kent. Round the corner from my parents' house! Wild horses and the plague couldn't keep me away from this. And it was as good as I expected.

And it was amazing, the prologue was great, 180 riders going round central London. I got a rather nice spot in Hyde Park, right by a corner, getting a good view of each rider at about the 5km point. I saw all the big names, (didn't get photos of all of them sadly- the contenders took a rather wide line, and my view was blocked by some spectators. Never mind, we'll see how the shots come out.

And then Stage 1. Through Dartford! I've never felt civic pride before. I can't see that I'll feel it again until the Olympics. Standing at the side of the road, I got a great view of David Millar leading the race, followed by a pursuing group, and the Peleton about 4 minutes behind. As I write this Millar's in a group of 5 about 5 minutes ahead of the main field, and there's a chance he might stay away for the win!

Given how well the Tour's gone, I'm rather more positive about the Olympics coming to London.
