If we're allowed dead people on board, do you think we could have Terry Nation back? Kevin J. Anderson works well with other people's work (just don't mention Dune), Alastair Reynolds would be good to have on board, just to make sure that even the non-physicists among us don't hang our heads in shame at the basic science errors (I'm looking at you 42!). As its my fantasy I'm going to throw in China Mieville, because Who might actually be scary again. (The last thing on Who that actually scared me were Haemovores eating Nicholas Parsons, and Six being attacked by hands from under the ground.) I know its a kid's show, but it would be nice to unnerve the parents sometimes.
Fantasy 11
I'd like to see an older Doctor. Personally I think that these days Michael Caine has the gravitas to carry it off. I want someone who can do the light-hearted stuff as well as Tom Baker, but has the air of menace that McCoy tried for, and didn't quite get. (Just as long as he doesn't have the cockney accent). When He does his "I am a Time Lord" stuff I want to be intimidated.
Companions
As for companions? No-one from modern times thankyouverymuch. Half-Cocked Jack Shaftoe from The Baroque Cycle for the light relief, someone pretty handy in a fight- and fun with culture shock- he's from the 17th century. I'm not so sure about female companions.
snapesbabe's choice of Ada Lovelace is a good one. Most of the female scientists I can think of off the top of my head are either too alive, or too well known -Marie Curie, for instance- to be anything other than guest stars. How about Nicole-Reine Étable de la Birère Lepaute?
It might work...
